She has been making these for as long as I can remember. The smell of the butter and chocolate being melted together….the gooey fudge-like inside and slightly crisp outside…..you get the idea.

They are fantastic!! This is an easy recipe that can be whipped up in very little time (seriously – not much longer than it would take for a box mix)!
They are so delicious that all they really need is a dusting of powdered sugar on top. But Grandma always insists on adding the glaze. She says she likes the way it makes the brownies look shiny. And we certainly don’t argue with Grandma 😉
Ingredients
Brownies
- 1 cup butter
- 4 ounces Unsweetened chocolate
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 eggs, beaten
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 1/4 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 cup nuts (optional)
Chocolate Glaze
- 3 Tbsp. butter
- 3 Tbsp. corn syrup
- 3 squares baking chocolate
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 4 1/2 Tbsp. water
- 1 3/4 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Melt butter and unsweetened chocolate in a saucepan.
- Remove from heat, add sugar and stir until shiny.
- In a separate bowl, mix eggs and vanilla until combined.
- Add the slightly cooled chocolate mixture to the bowl and mix well.
- Add flour, salt and nuts (if desired).
- Pour into a greased 9 x 13 pan.
- Bake for 25 minutes.
- Cool and cut into squares (or add the glaze recipe below and then cut into squares).
Chocolate Glaze
- Melt and combine butter, corn syrup, baking chocolate and vanilla in a saucepan.
- Add powdered sugar.
- Add water to get desired consistency.
- Spread over the cooled brownies.
