For quite a long time, I was very intimidated to make ribs on my own at home 🙁 I tried several times (mostly with the boneless country ribs). They always turned out dry and tough (bring on the BBQ sauce, lol)!!
So I took a break from making ribs for quite a few years (which was a bummer for me because I LOVE ribs). Then one day I ran across a dry rub recipe for pork and I decided it was time to give it another try. This time with more cooking experience under my belt. I changed up the dry rub to my taste and I was so proud of myself when I NAILED it! The ribs were super moist and fall off the bone tender.
This has been my go-to recipe ever since, so I just HAD to share. Oh, and my 7 year old (who usually doesn’t like to try “new” food outside his comfort zone), ate them and asked for seconds and thirds. Mom WIN!!
This dry rub is super easy to put together (takes under 5 minutes). The ribs really taste the best if you put on the rub the night before and have them marinate in the refrigerator overnight. Give this one a try and I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 pounds baby back ribs
For the dry rub
- 3 Tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 1/2 Tablespoons paprika
- 1 1/2 Tablespoons salt
- 1 Tablespoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Cover a rimmed baking sheet with foil. Place ribs onto baking sheet.
- Mix together the ingredients for the dry rub.
- Sprinkle both sides of the ribs with meat tenderizer.
- Sprinkle both sides of ribs with dry seasoning and rub into meat.
- Cover with foil and let marinate overnight.
- Take out ribs about an hour before you start to bake them so they aren't too cold going into the oven.
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
- Cook ribs, covered with foil, for one hour.
- Increase the temperature of the oven to 350 degrees.
- You will cook the ribs for an additional 45 minutes - 1 hour, but every 15 minutes, turn the ribs over and brush your favorite BBQ Sauce on.
- Check the ribs with a meat thermometer. I usually take them out when they are an internal temperature of 160 degrees.
- Let the ribs sit and rest for about 15 minutes before you cut and enjoy them 🙂
